The B&E Goulandris Foundation in Athens presents a big tribute to the fundamental role of multiples in modern and contemporary art.
The Foundation’s tribute to this form of art that has not yet gained the recognition it deserves features approximately 90 lithographs, engravings and ceramics from the Foundation’s Collection, that bear the signatures of eight 19th and 20th century acclaimed artists: Aristide Maillol (1861-1944), Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), Henri Matisse (1869-1954), Fernand Léger (1881-1955), Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), Georges Braque (1882-1954), Joan Miró (1893-1983) and Balthus (1908-2001).
Visitors will be able to discover, among other works, the complete albums “Les Maîtres du dessin - Aristide Maillol”, “12 Lithographs” by Lautrec, Léger’s “Cirque”, Hesiod’s “Theogony” illustrated by Braque and Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights”, as imagined by Balthus. As for Matisse, Picasso and Miró, they once more prove the decisive role they played in the development of 20th century engraving and ceramics.
