Nasreen Rehman: How did your being a British/Pakistani and Bradford resident shape BLF?
S.A.: Being a British-Pakistani with access to the languages and cultures of Pakistan and South Asia has had a profound impact on how the literature festival has shaped up. My cultural references are the Brontë sisters and the poet Byron, as well as Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Ismat Chughtai. This, I believe, has created a festival programme unique in the Western landscape.
Daily Mail talks about the new TV series
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, based in a novel by Holly Ringland:
The story may be set in Australia and written by a Queenslander, but it has ties to Britain. Holly wrote it here, having moved to Manchester in 2009 to do an MA in creative writing.
It's no coincidence that the farm's name mirrors Thornfield Hall, the house in Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre.
'In Manchester I was an hour from the Brontës' house. I'd drive to the moors and sit with the ghosts of the sisters.' (Lina Das)
If you’re a fan of British singer/songwriter Kate Bush (whose “Running Up That Hill” became a global mega-hit last summer due to “Stranger Things”), then you’ll definitely want to be in Candler Park tomorrow.
The eighth-annual, international “The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever” will take place in Atlanta and more than 45 cities around the globe.
Fans of Kate Bush and her 1978 hit “Wuthering Heights” – a lyrical retelling of Emily Brontë’s famous novel – gather to recreate the dance routine from the music video wearing a similar red dress. (Collin Kelley, Sammie Purcell and Madison Auchincloss)
... and in Preston, Mona Vale, Nashville, San Diego, Launceston...
Everyday Chirp lists 'Famous People Who Died Unaware of Their Future Fame'... really?
8. Emily Brontë (1818-1848)
English novelist Emily Brontë published only one novel, “Wuthering Heights,” during her lifetime, which received mixed reviews. After her death, her novel gained popularity and is now hailed as a classic of English literature. (Allison Sullivan)
Of course, the picture is wrong.
As the evening progressed, the wind had strengthened considerably and was now blowing strongly. The scene, graveyard on the right, as we walked into the wind resembled something out of Wuthering Heights, the green light accentuating the rather weird evening. (Nick Lander)
La Nación (Argentina) interviews the Norwegian explorer and author Erling Kagge:
(Marianna Somma) (Translation)
Konteks (Indonesia) recommends 'free adventure ebooks'. For some reason Jane Eyre is here:
