Gulf Today (Arab Emirates) has selected 'The 10 greatest romance novels' and Jane Eyre is one of them.
3. "Jane Eyre," by Charlotte Brontë
From the red room of childhood nightmares to the mad woman locked in an attic, this Victorian novel has lent us some powerful symbols.
It also stands as an enduring love story between the overlooked but fiercely intelligent governess of the title and Mr Rochester, who gradually learns to value what’s in front of him.
While Penguin highlights the '20 books that defined the 1930s' and one of them is
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (1938)
This was a book that set new standards for the psychological thriller, with one of the most famous heroines in English fiction. And yet, unlike Jane Eyre or Elizabeth Bennet, Rebecca's heroine has no name (Rebecca is in fact the dead wife of the narrator's new husband). (Matt Blake)
La Croix (France) recommends the lovely film Les deux anglaises et le continent by François Truffaut and now available on Netflix.
Midland Daily News features a former local basketball player.
"I'm going through the literary classics right now," she added. "I've read Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, and Wuthering Heights, and the next thing I'm going to read is Pride and Prejudice. I never thought I'd like books like that when I was younger, but I've discovered that I really do." (Fred Kelly)
