'New To The Parish': The Brontës and Journeys
31 Aug , 15:00 h
The Helicon, Seamus Heaney Homeplace, Bellaghy, Magherafelt, Ulster
With Zaffar Kunial, Sorcha Pollak & Claire Harman
Chaired by Paula Shields

Seamus Heaney HomePlace is delighted to be working with the Brontë Society and Brontë Parsonage Museum, to present this fascinating event, which explores the work and life of the Brontë sisters, their father Patrick's migration to England from Northern Ireland and the lessons that can be learned from similar journeys in wider society today.
Poet Zaffar Kunial has been the Writer-in-Residence at the Brontë Society since the beginning of 2019 and we are delighted to welcome him back to HomePlace following his visit last year. Claire Harman is an award-winning writer and critic, author of five major literary biographies, including one on Charlotte Brontë.
Sorcha Pollak is an Irish Times journalist whose weekly column, New to the Parish, explores the lives of migrants who have come to live in Ireland.

An arts journalist since the 1990s, Paula Shields has worked in print, TV and now radio – on Arena, Radio 1, RTE’s flagship arts show.

Join us for an exploration of life-changing journeys through literature and lived experience.
Presented in collaboration with the Brontë Parsonage Museum
