A local exhibition opening today, August 3, in Dewsbury:
The Dewsbury Greats
Thornhill Parish Church, Dewsbury
Opening 3rd August at 1900 for 1930 by Margaret Watson
August 5th until September 20th
Many famous people have connections with the town of Dewsbury. Some were born here, some have lived here and others have just passed through.
These individuals come from the worlds of entertainment, literature, sport, business, and politics. Others have performed great acts of bravery.
This exhibition, produced by Kirklees Museums with Margaret Watson looks at some of these people, who have left a lasting impression on this town.

The Dewsbury Reporter:
Although we have many home-grown heroes of our own, there are many famous people who have close connections with Dewsbury, and I have included them in the exhibition.
Here are just a few:
The Brontë family: Patrick Brontë was curate for three years at Dewsbury Parish Church. His daughter Charlotte, taught at Healds House in Dewsbury, where her sisters Anne and Emily, were pupils. (Margaret Watson)
