A couple of alerts for today, January 8:

1. In London, a rare chance to see Wuthering Heights 1962:
British Film Institute Southbank
Gothic: Love is a Devil
Wuthering Heights

Jan 8, 2014 6:30 PM
BBC 1962
Directed by Rudolph Cartier
With Keith Michell, Claire Bloom, Ronald Howard, Patrick Troughton.
Running time 95

The quality of Nigel Kneale’s script and the sizzling sexual chemistry between Michell and Bloom as lovers Heathcliff and Cathy transcend the studio-bound production values. Director Cartier works wonders, given the technical limitations of the period, to conjure a production of scope and power. Seldom has the story been told with more clarity of purpose. Michell’s brooding presence as Heathcliff is matched by Bloom’s feisty Cathy. A fascinating opportunity to see this stellar cast at the height of their power. – Marcus Prince

  1. If you go to the BFI in London it's a part of their BFI mediatheque. You can just walk in (for free) and watch it. I saw it a few days ago and can safely say it's my favourite version of the first half of "Wuthering Heights". Sharp, fast without being rushed, and refreshingly unromantic. Keith Michell is marvelous as Heathcliff, for once represented as a vicious, rabid beast instead of a passionate lover and a teen girl's wet dream.
