MSNBC presents the film like this:
The well-known story of "Jane Eyre" has been told many times, but Cary Fukunga, the director of the new film adaptation, feels earlier versions didn't show the spooky dark side of Charlotte Brontë's book. So he's giving it a shot, with Mia Wasikowska (Alice from last year's "Alice in Wonderland") as Jane, and Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester. (Opens March 11.) (Gael Fashingbauer Cooper)
Also, Digital Spy quotes from the Michael Fassbender Coming Soon interview; Miss Cavendish talks about the Gothic or not so Gothic look of the film; Shelby's Blog lists some differences between the movie and the book.

New York Magazine interviews Mia Wasikowska:
Black Swan gave me chills,” says Mia Wasikowska, who, bundled up in gray cashmere and clutching a hot cup of tea in the café of the Waldorf-Astoria, is, in fact, shivering. (...)
The other reason she’s stuck on Black Swan is because it shares DNA with her latest film, Jane Eyre (opening March 11), which stars Wasikowska as the title character, a young woman who, like Natalie Portman’s Nina, is vulnerable and somewhat lost, confused about what’s real (is that a voice in the attic?), and intimidated by an older, powerful man (Mr. Rochester, played by Michael Fassbender). Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre) has directed the film with a handheld camera, natural light, and Gothic shadows; it is more physical, more frightening, more emotionally wrenching than other updates of Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel—the black swan to lighter versions. “Nina and Jane are two girls trying to make a connection in a dislocated world, trying to find something,” says Wasikowska. “That perpetual preteen thing is a repression [for Nina]. But for Jane, it’s all repression. It’s inside herself. The book is her internal monologue, the whole 500 pages of it.” (Logan Hill)

Thisbeciel on her indispensable Enthusiast's Guide to Jane Eyre Adaptions is quite enthusiastic about the new movie:
I was able to attend an advanced screening of Jane Eyre 2011 and will post a short review once the movie is out. I will say that I absolutely loved it, and I felt that it is the best 2 hour film adaptation and does something unique in keeping the story focused on Jane and keeping the audience tuned into her feelings at all times. And I have so many good things to say about everyone's performance, especially Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender!
Hollywood Movie Costumes & Props posts new pictures of some Jane Eyre original costumes on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks (Los Angeles). Karlawitakay has uploaded to Youtube the Q&A with Mia Wasikowska and Cary Fukunaga at the recent screening at the Meteron in San Francisco (March 1, 2011)
