Michael O'Mara Books is preparing new luxury editions of Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. The release is scheduled for next June 2011:
Jane Eyre
Publisher: Michael O'Mara Books Ltd (2 Jun 2011)
ISBN-13: 978-1843175711
Wuthering Heights
Publisher: Michael O'Mara Books Ltd (2 Jun 2011)
ISBN-13: 978-1843175728
Bookseller gives more information:
Michael O'Mara is moving into classic hardbacks from next year, with the publisher's editorial director writing the introduction to The 39 Steps, which was authored by his grandfather.
Managing director Lesley O'Mara said the original idea for the classics series came from a feature in The Bookseller regarding evergreen titles. She said: "The article said that Jane Eyre had sold more than 482,000 copies since 1998. It just made me think it was such an obvious category to look at and repackage in a luxurious but affordable way."The Brontë classic is one of four titles published in June along with Brontë's Wuthering Heights as well as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. Each book will be priced £10.
O'Mara described the covers as "retro" and similar to other Michael O'Mara books such as its 2007 Christmas hit I Before E Except After C. She added: "We've taken particular care with the typsetting. We added wider than usual margins, which we think makes the books look very elegant." However, she said the books would lack features that many classics share. "There will be no worthy introductions or scholarly notes reminding you of school," she said.
One introduction that will be provided is by Michael O'Mara's editorial director John Buchan, the grandson of the thriller writer of the same name. He will write the introduction to The 39 Steps, which is released on 6th January. O'Mara added she planned to publish another four classics titles before the end of 2011 but had yet to decide which books. (Graeme Neill)
