Product Description
The Little Book of the Brontë Sisters is a 96-page hardback book written by Emily Wollaston. For anyone attempting to explain what makes a truly great writer, the idea of three Victorian sisters, the daughters of a country parson, who lived, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere, with little or no life experience whatsoever, belonging amongst literature's most celebrated authors, might well seem a very strange notion indeed. But we are of course talking about the Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne, who immortalised the Yorkshire countryside where they lived in such novels as "Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights" and "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall".

  1. Although the Bronte sisters lived a closeted life they certainly had life experiences, mostly of the kind that we would not want to endure today. All of these experiences went on to inform their writing.

The death of their mother when they were very young children. The deaths of two older sisters at Cowan Bridge School. The decline and fall of their brother Bramwell and the eventual deaths of all but Charlotte took terrible toll on the family.

No wonder their novels are dark and probe the depths of human nature and convey the bleakness of their surroundings.
