Two alerts for these days if you live in the UK.

Uncanny Tales is a combined exhibition of the works of Paula Rego, Ana Maria Pacheco, Marcelle Hanselaar, and Oona Grimes. As the Yorkshire Today reminds us, the exhibition arrives to Hull's Ferens Art Gallery.

Much of their work is inspired by the Bible and traditional English fairy tales. Paula Rego will be showing prints inspired by the popular nursery rhymes and classic tales such as Jane Eyre and Peter Pan, whereas Ana Maria Pacheco will be retelling Old Testament stories.

Paula Rego's Jane Eyre portfolio (see this old post) with the rest of works of this exhibition is touring UK:

Black Swan Arts, Frome, Somerset: 20th May - 24th June 2006
Ferens Art Gallery, Hull: 8th July - 27th Aug 2006
Rugby Art Gallery and Museum : 12th Sept – 5th Nov 2006
Babylon Art Gallery , Ely: Jan 2007

On the other hand, the Ways with Words Festival in Dartington Hall is going on since last July 7 until next July 17. There are not specific Brontë talks but we think our readers can be interested in the following ones:

July 10 10:00 AM Barn Theatre
Juliet Baker

Agincourt – The King,
The Campaign, The Battle Juliet Barker, best known for her biographies of Wordsworth and the
Bronte sisters, turns her attention to one of the most remarkable military victories in Britain’s history, the Battle of Agincourt, 1415. She paints a portrait of the age and gives a compelling account of this triumph of the underdog in the face of overwhelming odds.

July 11 13:30 Barn Theatre
Pamela Norris
Passionate Women
From the earliest times to the present, women have bucked convention and risked their
reputations, their livelihoods and their lives for love or lust. From medieval poets to Victorian novelists, through Daphne du Maurier to Sylvia Plath, Pamela Norris examines how women have lived and loved.

July 15 17:00 Great Hall
Jasper Fforde
Nursery Crime
Zany plots, outrageous puns, quirky humour, literary time-travel and a libraryful of literary references: Jasper Fforde is a publishing phenomenon. His is the classic story of endless rejection slips, before Hodder published his first novel and it became an international bestseller.
He received alternative education at Dartington Hall School, now he returns to describe his alternative literary universe. Is there a link?
