Aside from the added undead, of course! Got about 40 pages to go now, and there have been moments where I've wondered how similar it is to the original, and have reached for it to compare. The bit just after he's proposed and kisses her in the rain - wow. That was swoonworthy! (And not in the original. At least not in quite the same way!) Agree with the missed joke about "Resurgam" and that some of the added new parts are a bit hit-and-miss. Wondered for quite some time why the name of Mr. Brocklehurst had changed when everything else was so close to the original (aside from the undead), but that got its explanation eventually. All in all, I'm really enjoying it. :)Traxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13249884092846934427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16586584.post-79211292646737402172010-08-06T13:27:00.296+02:002010-08-06T13:27:00.296+02:00Sandy: thanks for your input. Arrgrh! Then again I have a humungous pile of stuff to read at the moment so maybe I'll wait until the tide recedes and I have a bit of reading space.Helen Highwaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08087854313840436307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16586584.post-81847918319558462572010-08-06T01:22:21.071+02:002010-08-06T01:22:21.071+02:00Hello! I will discuss it more on Les Brontë à Paris in a few days, but I think we will go on the same road... However it would have been such a great loss not to have read "Reader, I burried him" once in my life, too ;-)... (hum... I don't know if I'll have enough courage to face Wuthering Bites...)Mariehttp://brontefrance.hautetfort.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16586584.post-58044249255992406232010-08-06T01:15:14.398+02:002010-08-06T01:15:14.398+02:00I was so offended by "Jane Slayre" that ...I was so offended by "Jane Slayre" that I had to stop reading about three or four chapters in. Of course I took it back up because I'm either THAT addicted to Charlotte (thus had to know how much more butchery had taken place) or I'm a glutton for punishment. As with "Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies," there were moments when the fantastic elements made the reader laugh, but, as the review from the blog suggests, there were moments that destroyed the original novel's tone, flow, and feel so fully that it's difficult to recommend the mashup (and I'm more comfortable referring to it as a rewrite) to anyone. I'd hate to suggest a novice Bronte reader take it up for fear that they get the wrong "feel" for "Jane Eyre" or the character. And I'd hate to have any fans read it upon my recommendation and ban me from the Bronte Society afterward...<br />From Sandy Lender<br />"Some days, you just want the dragon to win."Sandy Lenderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16199084967927013025noreply@blogger.com
