Almost 170 years since it was first published, Charlotte Brontë's novel inspires a new generation in this bold re-imagining devised for the famous Bristol Old Vic theatre.
From her beginnings as a destitute orphan, Jane Eyre's spirited heroine faces obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart.
Enriched with specially commissioned live music, this empowering drama draws on the Victorian masterpiece in a way that is compelling to modern audiences.
Director Sally Cookson made her name with a succession of sparkling adaptations of popular classics, and her Jane Eyre attracted the UK's major drama critics to its Bristol debut in 2014. Originally performed in two parts, the show has been adapted as a single performance for its transfer to the National Theatre of Great Britain in September 2015, followed by a season at Bristol Old Vic and an exclusive run in Hong Kong.
